Bayswater Bullets Little Athletics Club Info

Established in 1968, this coming Summer Track & Field season will be our 43rd season of competition.

We are one of the smaller clubs within the competition, but as such, we get to know all our athletes and parents in a family friendly environment and the Committee strive to deliver the very best for all our athletes and parents.

On event days during the summer Track & Field season, we are located on the southern end of the Grandstand on the Athletic Track at the Knox Park Sporting Complex, Bunjil Way, Knoxfield Map 73 D6 (entrance from the traffic lights on the corner of Ferntree Gully and Scoresby Roads)

In the winter Cross Country season, the events are held in various parks and reserves within the the City of Knox. Just ask any of the Officials to point out Bayswater Bullets team members. There are always a few Committee members in attendance.

Little Athletics recognises that children vary widely in shape, size and athletic ability, and is thus one of few sports that successfully caters for them all. The Little Athletics motto is "Family, Fun and Fitness"

We are always welcoming new athletes to come down and join us. No previous athletic ability or experience is necessary.

Little Athletics!

It's fun

Children like fun; more than that, children need fun. Little Athletics Saturday morning or Friday twilight competitions provide it. With a wide range of running, walking, throwing, jumping and play training events
It's for fitness
Not only is Little Athletics a whole lot of fun, its also a great way to keep fit. A healthy body means an alert mind and greater resistance to many physical ailments. Also, a child who learns how to keep fit in youth is more likely to stay fit for life
It's for the family

Little Athletics is more than fun and fitness. It's a family movement that promotes family participation. It's a real chance for Mum, Dad, other family members to do things together regularly. Parents are involved as voluntary helpers and officials at athletic events. Any boy or girl of 6 to 14 years of age can register to join Bayswater Bullets.

For those 15 and 16 years old, Knox Park is also host venue for Knox Interaths

Club school catchment area

Club allocation is generally arranged by geographic location of the athletes school. However, club allocation is not mandatory and all athletes are entitled to select and join a club of their choice. Schools in the Bayswater Bullets catchment area are Bayswater Primary School, Bayswater South Primary School, Bayswater North Primary School, Bayswater West Primary School and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School.

Competition

The Summer Track and Field Season runs from October to March on either Friday nights or Saturday mornings.

Saturday Mornings:    8:30am to 12 noon

Friday Nights:    6:00pm to 9:30pm.  Bayswater Bullets provide free BBQ food at these twilight meetings for our club parents and athletes.

Under 7 and 8 programs generally finish around one hour earlier than the above times

The Winter Cross-Country Seasons runs from April to August in various parks around the City of Knox on Saturday mornings starting at 9:00am and finishing around 11:00am.

Participation, Enjoyment and PB's

We hope that you will have fun and along the way make new friendships, take defeat and success in the right spirit and above all compete as a member of the team.

The emphasis is on participation, enjoyment and on improving on their own PB (Personal Best performance in each event).

Events are conducted in age groups. After the first few weeks, sprint races are graded so that athletes compete with others of simular ability.

Share in the experiences with your children

Little Athletics is more than a sport. It is community orientated organisation which enables a family to do something together. Unlike other sports where most parents only have a spectator role, parents are involved in the program as voluntary helpers or officials and share many experiences with the children. Little Athletics provides a vital communication bridge between parent and child which can have benefits far beyond the years spent at the Knox Centre.

The average Little Athlete

Not all competitors can be champions. This applies to all sports. Little Athletics was quick to recognise this and accept a responsibly to preserve the interest and rights of all members. There is of course, an obligation to the talented child who may wish to continue in sport. That obligation is not met at the expense of the average little athletes who are by far, the majority. All participants are encouraged to support the philosophy of IMPROVEMENT, RATHER THAN WINNING.

Club Colours and Uniform

Breathable orange singlet with black sides and black trim on both arms and neck. Black "Bayswater Bullets" logo on back with same logo but smaller on front left upper side. Black shorts. Runners must be worn for all competition. Spikes can be worn by Under 12's and above in laned events only and jumps. The Registration Patch is placed on the front, held by small safety pins. A club uniform is compulsory to compete at the Knox Centre including plain black shorts with current registration patch attached on the front.

In the hotter months,  please use a long sleeve top and wear a hat/cap in between events to protect against the sun . A bottle of sunscreen will be located on the Team Managers table for use.

Results

The children gain result details of their events which are written on tickets. These are kept in a booklet so every athlete can see how they improve over the season.

The Team Manager records the results of these tickets to keep a tally of the athletes progress for end of season awards.

We also have a Weekly Season Diary of Personal Best results listed on this webpage from the Team Managers report. This is unique to our club only.

Codes of Behaviour

For the Codes of Behaviour expected by all associated at Little Athletics, please see:

www.bayswater.klac23.org.au/codes_of_behaviour.htm

Disabilities

All Children are encouraged to join. There is no specific program but welcome any enquiries to see how we can help. We had our first disabled athlete in season 2002/03 which proved successful at the Centre level. Knox LAC had a Throwing Frame constructed to assist with the Field events.

Training

General Track and Field training is held throughout the summer season on various nights and weekends and conducted by Coaches for all teams within the Knox Little Athletic Centre. The aim is to learn new skills, polish up old ones and generally improve performance. All U7 to U15 athletes are most welcome.  Please see www.klac23.org.au/Training/CurrentCoachingProgram.htm for Training information.

Parent Duty Rosters

All Officials are parents, just like yourself, and have volunteered their services. All clubs are required to supply officials for competition. For your convenience, you can choose 6 parent duty sessions out of the 18 from the list on the Team Managers table. Three dates before Christmas and three after Christmas.

No experience is necessary as there are many experienced people at the Knox Centre who are happy to show new parents what is involved with a particular event.

Being actively involved in running of the program will enable you to gain knowledge about each event, socialise with other parents and shows your child that you support their athletic activities.

Without all the required Officials,  the full program cannot be run and your children will miss out on events,  as well as the program running longer than it should.

Please see our notice "What is expected from Parents" by clicking here!

Bayswater Bullets have great record in parent involvement and last season won the "Kathy Hale Shield" for the best Supporters Club in season 2004/05.

Please sign on for duty by 8:15am on Saturday mornings or 5:45pm Friday nights

Please click here for Bayswater Bullets 2009/10 Parent/Carer Duty Roster

Every club is also required to do Canteen duty twice this season. We have been rostered to do Friday 10th December 2010. We find it best for those not on duty to do it in one hour shifts.

The fee structure represents very good value compared to the cost of other sports. First child registered is $150 and second child $125, third $115 and fourth $110.

You will also find that we do not charge as much as other clubs as we believe in putting some of the funding back into the fees to make it more affordable.

Children in family Total family yearly cost
One Child $150.00
Two Children $275.00
Three Children $390.00
Four Children  (no Family levy fee) $480.00

The same with the club singlets and polo tops. We charge you what is cost us. We

Club singlets - $30 each           Adult club polo tops - $35 each

These fees include the Region & State Championships for Relays and Track & Field which are paid for by the Knox Little Athletics Centre. The Cross Country winter season is also at no extra cost.

The only other cost is entry to the Knox Open Twilight at the end of January. Cost for both meetings are $6.00 per event or $20.00 for four events. The first three winners are awarded medals and fifth to eighth place are awarded ribbons.

For the Relays, the fee is $10 which is payable to the Coach.

There is also entry fees for Region Track and Field Championships and State Multi Event Championships payable online at www.lavic.org.au

Fee for single child after February 1st 2011 is $125 which includes Cross Country season.

Fee for a single child for the Cross Country season only,  the fee is $60.00 which goes directly to the Knox Centre

For those under 6, the Cross Country fee is $30.00 which goes directly to the Knox Centre

To be a Bayswater Bullets athlete for the Cross Country season, a further $5 affiliation fee would be payable to the club which goes towards the end of season Bayswater Bullets Cross Country club awards. A club singlet would also have to be purchased.

There are no refunds once fees are paid which is why we prefer all new children to try out a day for free first before deciding. Most of the fees go to the LAVic and Knox LAC which we are not able to get back once paid.

Fundraising

We try to limit the amount of fundraising we do. To assist with end of season Trophies, Twilight BBQ's & Presentation expenses we have the following fundraising activities:

Raffle Day and Cake Stall: This season it is Saturday 4th December 2010. We ask parents to donate items for a Xmas hamper and for those not on duty, to assist on the Raffle table or sell tickets around the ground.  For the Cake Stall, we ask each family to bring a cake or a plate of cooked items. Please add a list of ingredients used.

Bunnings BBQ: This is held at Bayswater Bunnings and we require three people per two hour and a half hour shifts from 8:00am to 4:00pm

Twilight BBQ's

To recognise that families must be at the track by 6:00pm on twilight and cannot have dinner in time, we are one of the few clubs that provide a Free BBQ for families and their siblings, as most charge for. Firstly, this can only happen if we have someone to volunteer to do this.

Memos, Notices & Newsletters

Notices will be distributed by email or can be obtained from our "Notices and Forms" webpage.

For those without email, notices will be put in the Filing Box near the Team Managers desk with each family having a folder with their name on it.

Knox Centre notices will be put in the Filing Box for all families so please check this weekly for any memos, notices and newsletters.

Seasons

Little Athletics has two seasons:

The "Summer" Track and Field season from October to March.
